PROTEOMICS WORKSHOP
From Sample Preparation to Biological Interpretation:
An Introduction to Mass Spectrometry-Based Proteomics
Date : 6 Oct 2026
Time : 9.00 am - 4.00 pm
Venue : Aquculture Incubator, Institut Marin Borneo,
Universiti Malaysia Sabah
Introduction
This comprehensive workshop guides researchers through the complete mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflow, bridging the gap between raw biological samples and meaningful data interpretation.
Workshop Overview
"From Sample Preparation to Biological Interpretation" offers practical guidance for navigating modern proteomics. The session covers the entire analytical pipeline, starting with experimental design, protein extraction, and LC-MS/MS workflows. Participants will learn to transition from raw mass spectra to identified proteins utilizing software demonstrations, and will explore essential data deposition practices to effectively share their findings with the scientific community.
Learning Outcomes
1. Understand core proteomics approaches, including experimental design, protein extraction, and digestion protocols for LC-MS/MS
2. Process RAW mass spectrometry data to successfully identify peptides and proteins using MS/MS fragmentation and database searching.
3. Interpret and evaluate quantitative proteomics outputs, including Peptide Spectrum Matches (PSMs), individual peptides, and overall protein data.
4. Navigate standard proteomics data sharing protocols and submit complete or partial datasets via PRIDE and ProteomeXchange
5. Analyze differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) using functional enrichment tools like ShinyGO, STRING, and KEGG to derive biological meaning from complex protein lists.
