Machine Learning for Precision Aquaculture

Date : 24- 25 Feb 2025

Venue : Bilik Mesyuarat Utama, Borneo Marine Research Institute,

           Universiti Malaysia Sabah

Synopsis

This 2-day intensive workshop is designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of how machine learning can be applied to enhance precision aquaculture. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on experience, covering a wide range of topics from basic machine learning concepts to advanced techniques and real-world applications.

Day 1

Introduction to Machine Learning and Precision Aquaculture Participants will be introduced to the course objectives and the significance of machine learning in precision aquaculture. The morning session will cover fundamental machine learning concepts, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, along with key algorithms such as Linear Regression, Decision Trees, and Neural Networks. The afternoon session will focus on data collection and preprocessing, highlighting the types of data in aquaculture, data collection methods, and sensor technologies. Participants will engage in practical exercises on data cleaning and preprocessing.

Day 2

Machine Learning Applications in Precision Aquaculture The second day will delve into specific applications of machine learning in aquaculture. The morning session will cover real-time monitoring of environmental parameters and automated control systems for feeding and water quality management. Additionally, participants will learn about machine learning techniques for early disease detection and health monitoring through image recognition and pattern analysis. The afternoon session will focus on predictive modelling for fish growth rates and optimization of feed and resource management. Participants will build and evaluate predictive models.

This workshop is ideal for aquaculture professionals, researchers, and students who are interested in leveraging machine learning to improve the efficiency and sustainability of aquaculture practices.
